BW, might be an idea to pimp the details around the Frostbite League when you have firm detail to go on. That way you can hit 15ish clubs with the detail in a short space of time.

Thanks for the ideas folks, and positive comments. I'll push on. Parkrun indicate that it will take 12 weeks or so to get things off the ground, mainly dependent on getting a suitable course sorted. Several criteria to satisfy, including having parking nearby, away from roads and not crossing any roads, and (ideally) a cafe to go to afterwards. And it would be nice if it was fairly attractive and with track/route that will not be liable to flooding/going soft in wet weather. Coton country park, Stourbridge common, towpath north towards Baits Bite, Tri club 5k route around Impington fruit farms, new paths around Addenbrooks or Magog Down all strike me as possibilities.

our school 5k uses wilberforce road - 1 lap of track, up footpath to Coton green, turn, back down footpath and finish with one lap of track

I was hoping not to use the track ... I am sure that they would charge. Also, the corners at the motorway bridge are a bit risky, especially coming down and turning sharp right around the blind corner towards Coton if there are people coming the other way.

Milton Country park suddenly occurred to me after I wrote the post above. The local orienteering club does events there, and there is a car park, cafe and toilets. And close to the A14 for access from elsewhere. Just got to see if I can wheedle a 5k route out of it.

Gorleston uses a 2 lap course, I believe some of the other parkruns do too. Which means you can make a 5k route in a fairly small area.

Having enough volunteers to help each week is probably the hardest bit.

yup, the volunteers will be the tricky thing.

I did come up with a two lap course of Milton Country park which seems to work:

Any possibility of utilising Midsummer Common/Jesus Green. There are plenty of traffic free routes (as long as the Cam is not too high). Happy to offer assistance too. :)

Parking's not great there, is it?
The Race for Life route uses Jesus Green and Midsummer Common, crosses a road, and is still short of 5k at the best of times, not to mention being a nightmare to mark out (it was shorter than usual in July last year because one section of the course was dangerously waterlogged).

I'd be on for helping too.

Jumping over the fishermen's rods might be an issue if you ran to baits bite lock as well!
