If I had known now about being a wimp buying a triple, I think I would have still done the wimp thing.

LOL, my bike came with a double, not even a compact... so I had no choice but to be a tough cookie

Well I didn't know really what the difference was, so I just went with the one I liked in my budget

Lots of road bikes have triples nowadays. There is a bit of extra weight, but it's ounces, so who cares? It gives you a really wide range of gears without big jumps between ratios. And your kneecaps don't pop off.

I have a triple on my bike - hardly any difference at all and means when I get to go on some real mountains I don't have to change anything

LOL... tbh, if I had had a choice (I did not, 2nd hand bike) I would have gone for a compact or a triple, as I live in the Weslh hills... however, I just about manage to pedal up most of them now, and have been getting one hell of a lot stronger since I started cycling here 9 months ago!

Jeez, I'm allowed one fashion mistake!
I live in the welsh hills, I went for the double by choice - it removes the option to wimp out and makes me the slowest cyclist where ever I go.
