Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Rode the watt bike properly for the first time on Zwift this AM. A joy - perfect blue ERG.

I mix up erg and non-erg.

I used predominantly non-erg for a while, but switched to occasionally having it on. I think it was something in an Alex Dowsett article on his hour records that motivated it. He described how the track made him realise just how many micro rests you get on the road in TTs.

It doesn't exactly match, but it made me think I could get something out of deliberately riding some threshold efforts in erg to avoid that natural over-under effect, and force constantly keeping over the gear.

I know the likes of Andrew Feather also swears by erg mode, probably to learn to not ease off when it gets stupidly painful at the end of a hill climb.

@MudMeanderer I just like cadence control and struggle to get that in ERG mode :)

It's think it's that aspect I'm focusing on with erg - when I'm on the limit, I find myself searching for a non-existent gear (16.4T sprocket anyone?) and some magical optimal cadence, such that I'm changing gear every couple of seconds. I realised I just need to teach my muscles and brain to accept being slightly off that optimum and deal with it.
