If she's 5'6" she should either be looking at a small (51) or a 15/16" frame. As m4p says go to the shop and try a few because manufacture sizes vary.

She has long legs... so maybe she will need a medium... it all depends on the style of frame and how long her upper body is... she does not want to ride with her knees touching her chin, nor does she want to have to stretch too far forwards yto reach the handlebars...

Some manufactures do now make women specif frames.

Yes, and they are way too small for me... I have 34ins inside leg... no women's bike would fit me... the bike shop where I bought mibe recommended the Giant sloping frame I have, to accomodate long legs and a short body...

When the guy measured different bodyparts to feed into the computer for accurate setup, he fed me into the general stats of all clients he had set up bikes for. I had the second longets thies ever, and the longets belonged to a 2.10 metre bloke!!!

Yeah, I am Idio :-) and those long legs get in the way when running downhill fell running. They are useful uphill though :-)
