I'm not sure about theft statistics, but for an ebike, it may be feasible to carry a properly big lock and remove the battery. This is what I do with the cargo bike. It may depend on details of your use though.

Removing the battery would work for shopping etc, but not for using it to cycle to a good running place. But it's something to think about when considering the actual use cases.

My wife has an E-mountain bike which has been great news for us as a couple. She has solid MTB skills and base fitness but the e-bike means she can ride harder climbs with me without being blown to pieces so we get to get to ride further and I get to ride a little harder than when we both ride analogue.
A number of my friends over 50 also have them and the same rules apply, in fact in some situations they make me work very hard !!!
We don't use the bikes as a mode of transport they are just toys.

I'd had my impel serviced at Halfords, new gear cables / brake cables and replaced the chain made a huge difference.
My partner n I were out for a scoot about town and the weekend and gotta say it felt like a new bike!
Ali has decided to try and sell his Ribble GravelE - and get himself something a bit more sturdy and general.
