Thanks ctc, made me feel a bit better, except I'm on a road bike.

I do prefer the road bike, but for winter training the MTB is great.
If it's raining your going to get soaked to the skin and it seems more enjoyable on a MTB.

My mountain bike is only 2 lbs heavier than my racer was Boo. Obviously the racer was a cheaper bike... mostly the racer keeps its momentum better so you fly when you're on undulating hills - slicks on a mountain bike can make a big difference too.
My mountain bike has much lower gearing - fantastic on hills:-) I think it's 22 on the small ring and 34 teeth on the back (i.e. 2 less than the norm). There are still a few bits of off road stuff I can't pedal it up though
Racers are dicey in the rain - you get grey slime on the rims and the brakes take ages to stop you

I'd like a fixie, but probably can't justify *another* bike...

In winter, the warmest, wooliest hiking socks you could possibly imagine. Two pairs if possible. And overshoes.
In summer I wear cycling socks (which I have a habit of winning in triathlons?!?!) or just normal socks.

Any socks KR2 - nothing special really...
Can I ask something? What the equivalent in running if I cycle 25miles?? I feel no stress on my legs doing it - but I am sure they are tired...
