It’s not until next July but i’m Setting out my conditions for maintaining sanity early Dai. We’re staying just outside Cardigan with the in-laws and the golf-mad brother and sister in-law a few hundred yards from a golf course. I’m banking on bike rides being more socially acceptable than stabbing everyone brutally with a bread knife!

I’ll take you up on the offer nearer the time though mate. Thanks.

Sadly Cardigan is far far west of my abode so guiding not an option but know the roads well from road rallying days so you will be OK if you plan a night ride lol

Seriously there is little or no flat so any ride will be short steep hills up and down so low gearing will definitely improve enjoyment.

Happy to help nearer the trip

just one bike, Nellers? We have a very cheap boot-mounted rack we got from ebay for a tenner. It has scratched our paintwork a little, but is safe and does the job. We've had three bikes on it but it's only really safe for two, but perfect for one. I think it was originally a Halfords one.

eL Bee! and I spent a week on the the same peninsula last summer, Nellers. We enjoyed cycling there. It's beautiful and there are plenty of good places to stop for tea and cake. But as Dai says, you'd struggle to find a ride that's not hilly.

I’m actually looking forward to the hills. I live in Essex. Proper hills are hard to come by. I like a challenge.

(Remind me I said that when my legs fall off!)

Hi all

thought i'd resurrect this thread to ask a question about hybrid bikes.

i might be in the market for one for commuting purposes. 100 - 125 miles/week, London commuting. I already have road and MT bikes so i don't really need another to use "as well as" commuting, and i don't really want to spend more than 700. couple of questions:

1 - specialized sirrus vs Boardman HYB - do you have a preference? Is there much difference between them?
2 - any other hybrid recommendations in this kind of price range?

OH and I both have Giant hybrids and OH has used his a lot for London commuting. Cheaper than your price range but solid commuter hybrids. I'm not an expert by any means, though.

Think this is the current model. Also available with disc brakes.

We have no complaints with these at all. Mudguards and bag rack extra.
