My LBS is quite scathing about Schwalbe tyres, however, they should last longer than that! I'd contact the shop you bought it from - they may be able to exchange on warranty for you

Thanks all. I shall keep a close eye on it. I bought it direct from Canyon (LBS didn't stock anything small enough with an adult spec sadly).

I have another question... Has anyone taken their bike long distance on a train? I'd love to do coast to coast but getting the train with a bike is looking a logistical nightmare- On the main lines, some companies allow booking, others don't and only allow 2 bikes on. I fear I could get stranded. Or are the guards ok? Seems madness to drive up!

Hi, At the start of a long cycle tour in Europe last summer I had to get my bikes by train from my home near Cheltenham to Harwich. The summary of the journey is...

Home to London Paddington. Booked bike spaces in advance on GWR. Went without a hitch, the bikes had reserved spaces where they could be secured in the guards van.

Cycle across London - Meh!

London Liverpool Street to Harwich. Booked bike spaces in advance. Got to Liverpool Street and no-one had hear of us or could find our bike reservations. Nevertheless everyone was pretty helpful and they lobbed us on the train anyway and all was fine.

This pretty much encapsulates my many experiences of putting a fully loaded tourer on a train. It is a bit stressful and of course some trains (particularly in rush hour) are not set up for it and absolutely won't take you. But if you call in advance (either the Train Operator or Trainline) you can usually book ahead and even if things aren't as smooth as you'd like people usually take pity on you and it all works out provided you don't expect to get on a train that is advertised as not taking bikes.

Thank you for that! Anglia wont let me book from Great Yarmouth (4 per train 1st come 1st served). Then midland will let me book to Grantham. But London Midland wont. Which is my worry. Would be going off peak so hoping people would be amenable!

I’ve read good things on various FB pages. I’ve just been talked into an upgrade on a rear wheel (mainly to get a better hub) to a Halo - our LBS reckons they’re as good as anything out there and they are a good price... I’m happy with it so far - just over 1000 miles.

I’ve got a couple of pairs of hunts, one gravel and one set fast commuter. Both great and survived the winter just fine.

They’re based nearby which might make be biased.
