I bought about 10 a while ago from Chain Reaction Cycles and just sent back the 9 that didn’t fit my head. Fit differs from brand to brand IME. Girl used to work really well for me; not any more. I’m currently wearing a Smith helmet with MIPS. MIPS is really the only differentiator you will find between helmets in terms of safety standards now. They will all protect your bonce. MIPS is supposed to help absorb some of the impact that might cause brain injuries. I figured it could be useful on the mtb. I don’t have MIPS in my road helmet (Mavic).

I've got a Smith helmet with mips, seems to fit well. But recently I've been wearing my Oakley road helmet with mips more, even on short xc rides.

I have nearly always bought Giro but last but one was Boardman and that did fit well on my head, the current ones don,t so went back to Giro.
I should mention my son works for Halfords.

I have a tire question...
My new bike has now done almost 300 miles but I've noticed strips of rubber coming off every ride. It's from all over the tire. I've never had a bike do this before. Is it normal? (It's more than just the spru/ spurs)

1step, assuming you are too sensible to have bought rubbish tyres, is there any chance they could have been damaged by frost or heat?

No chance of damage by either frost or heat. Bike stored hanging up in lean to. Not sure if tires any good but they're Schwalbe pro one's.
