Not sure whether it belongs here, or on the 'Maintenance for Dummies' thread, but here goes: I'm finally getting round to setting up my bike trainer for use in lockdown/furlough. In the instructions, it talks about different positions for 29", 28" and 26" wheels (even though it's Elite - an Italian make). My wheels are 700c. If this is millimetres, it doesn't seem to match any measurement on the wheel, and doesn't convert to one of these Imperial measurements. Any suggestions? |

Thanks - If the 700 is millimetres, does it include the height of the tyre as well?

Dai: 700 does refer to the outer diameter of the tyres. A 700c tyre has a rim diameter of 622mm. 700c is a historical measure, when for some reason they used the OD of the whole wheel. Like 26in or 29in, they're largely nominal and pretty much marketing terms. The only reliable measure of wheel size in my experience is ISO ERTRO. |

Of course you are right MM As penance I shall have to re-read Sheldon Brown's "Tire-sizing" once more having completely forgotten all that I ever learned, if indeed I did learn it all those years ago! Thanks |

Sheldon Brown, that's a name from the past. I remember emailing him a question years ago, gods knows what it was about but remember getting a very lengthy detailed answer back.
