Simbil - I have had some very good days on the bike, I did the Sportives as I didn't know the area but actually think if I came back I would do the events again.

Lets be clear I went round on the Saturday pretty quickly considering the elevation and every person around me was a road racer. Sunday was pretty similar but just seemed more chilled out than the couple of UK events I did.

I don't think it will make me change my mind about British events but I may end up doing something like the Marmotte in the future.

Probably have a too small a budget for all of my wants, as i think i now want disc brakes

What do we think of the gearing? single ring at the front and big range out the back?

I can recommend the Specialized Diverge gravel bikes. Got one of the first DSW elites and love it. It's only got basic tiagra but the frame and full carbon fork is a solid base for upgrades when the tiagra wears out. Only gripe is heavy wheels but the roll great and seem pretty bomb proof. I've only got cable disc but find them more than adequate.
