So how long are road bike tyres meant to last for?
I use my rear brake as the primary brake on my roadbike, so apparently I am doing it wrong. I've seen videos showing how you only need a front brake, and hmm, fine ... but I'm happy to leave that to other people.

Don't take up motorcycling Dvorak.
I've not had a tyre wear out on me yet, but my mileage is hardly monster.

I tend to change mine when the surface gets quite worn but before the wear indicators tell me I have to. Less than 2,000 miles but tyres are cheap I'd rather put new ones on for less than a tank of diesel in my car and not start to get punctures - anyway new ones are quicker.

I have Specialized Armadillo tyres (i.e. more puncture resistant than the type of tyres most relatively cheaper bikes come with). current mileage is 2281 miles and i reckon i can still squeeze more out of them yet (though to be fair i am keeping an eye on the rear one...)

I have Michelin Lithion 2, 25mm. About 2500-3000 miles on them. I replaced the stock Vredstein Fiammante after about 1000 miles, which were fine but I wanted something a little more robust for winter and bad roads. And I just left them on. The front has a small nick, but otherwise fine. Been on some lousy roads, in poor conditions and have additionally covered some ground that road bikes probably shouldn't go. Not bad for £25 the pair including tubes from Chain Reaction.
What I'd like to hear is that they will be good for 5000 or more :-).
HappyTimes bought the Armadillos as well: I've never seen squarer tyres on a bike before he replaced them (across the way, not like in "Reggie Perrin").

I don't actually know how many I do on mine, but it's a hell of a lot more than 2000

What's the thinking on single speeds/fixies nowadays ?
Still de rigueur or so last week?
Mates flogging one and I'm tempted to part with some readies.

Yes but I'm no fucking hipster.
My beard, like my n+1 is driven by eclectic opportunity rather than perceived cool
