no one been cycling lately?!?!!?!

i have a question about bike overshoes. I got a pair recently which did an ok job in terms of waterproof and warmth. but after just a couple of weeks i noticed that the stretchy bit under the toes (that keeps the overshoe on my cycling shoe) was becoming threadbare. clearly it was where i was walking on them, but given that the only walking i did on them was the 100 feet between where i park my bike for work and getting to my desk, i didn't think it was unreasonable for the shoes to be able to cope with that. was i supposed to take them off just to walk to my desk?!?!

the problem seemed to be that the underside of my spd shoes are uneven, as part of the pattern. it's on those pressure points that the overshoe became worn.

so my question is, are there any overshoes you guys can recommend that won't wear on the bits you walk on? Or is the problem always going to be there, given the shoes that i have?

I cycled last weekend, with 4 blokes (much faster than me) and they made me go downhill fast when path was covered in leaves and frosty - it scared me a lot, but then they did buy me cake :-)

Last year i would just remove my overshoes to the point that they were flapping around my ankles when i needed to walk any distance further than a few metres. it was the velcro fastening underneath that was failing on mine.
This year i have opted for shimano winter boots, which typically i have hardly had to use yet.

This winter is so much drier than last year
