On another tack. Bought an elite crono of a mate this evening, he's bought a smart trainer

Anythong I should be wary of going from mag to fluid?

It's quieter and the resistance is exponential - so don't expect the same speed for effort.

Makes it very easy to do high wattage efforts though! :)

When I say 'easy'..... it "facilitates" high wattage efforts - they are still hard ;)

When you say Exponential???

Have no power meter (another thing to catch up on ;-) )

The mag trainer kinda 'lets go' after about 45 minutes so you end up on bigger and bigger gears with a smell of cooked electric motor under your arse!

I want the turbo to be consistant then i can work out how to get the best out of it.

Then it will be worth investing in a meter!

thanks elbee

You won't get that with the fluid trainer. It's much more consistent, and once the fluid viscosity stabilises after a couple of minutes, you are sorted!

I thought that would be the case, I'm not a fluid dynamics engineer but when you think car engine oil can do 20K between changes it doesnt take a genius to figure out it's pretty stable stuff!

Ha ha hah hah hah hah

Either the new turbo has balls of steel or the mag was actually an electric motor!

45 minutes on it last night. Ruined, ruined I tells yah!

Hello, I have a question.

The other day I broke my chain. I don't think it's particularly old. A nice man came along and fixed it for me but does this mean I need to get a new chain- if it's happened once is it likely to happen again?

I'm not sure what the right answer is, but you've just reminded me that I broke an chain going up one of the hills in the Tour of the Cotswolds last year (when was that? June? July? summer sometime) and I'm still riding around on the same chain. No issues with it yet.

I've just tempted fate, haven't I?...
