10kph=6.2mph will help, but ther should be an option to switch over on the set up mode.

like idio says most frames builders in the uk will build made to measure and are normally pricey compared to the import market.

The Jogger
I've just ordered a specialized sirrus, to do a daily, well 4 day week, 15 mile commute to add to my running, just £400 and works out cheap on the c2w scheme.....

yes, but all the gear will be made and probably assembled in the far east, so it is hardly british. the last truly quality british built bikes were probably raleigh's in the 1980-90's. even then all the components were Italian.

best to talk about European rather than uk. saying that all Colnago's are now outsourced to China, I think?

Skunk
Specialized are great bikes, and that aint bad for £400. I bet you can get it cheaper elsewhere though, ive always found Evans to be a bit expensive, but having said that you should get a free service thrown in.

yes. because that's what folks have been talking about. off the peg bikes.

When I was a 'youngster' many moons ago, a racing bike was something you built up from the frame, with what you could afford. Racing wheels were hand-built in the local shop. parts were replaced when you could afford it.

Then the Americans came along and started to offer off the peg bikes at a fraction of the cost, compromising on quality in many instances. If you look at many budget bikes there are many parts that are 'manufacturer parts'. Specialised were one of the first to do that and the quality had to be questionned. But for many people it's the ideal way to start.

My first good frame was built by a local builder, to my sizes and colour. I ride a GT now and it has served my well, but it is still a compromise on the geometry.

there I had my say.

Specialized are good bikes and evans are expensive, if it's not a sale bike. It's hard to beat a price of £400 if you wanted to build your own.

I would look at Ribble cycles, at least they offer a choice of components and frames.

This is for serious cyclist or those with money. sadly I am neither now!
