Thanks guys. Hammerite - can get both for £95 actually. Wiggle has the Polar. Pilotlight - some folk have told me how important cadence is.
My options are to spend £50 on a garmin cadence meter and bike mounting kit.
But I've been having problems with the Garmin losing satellite - even in open areas, and quite frankly I hate sitting around before running/riding waiting for it.
What I might do, rather than drop £100 on an all in one unit is get a £40 speed/cadence cateye like Pilotlight linked, and wear my Garmin to check HR occasionally.
Tour of Britain sounds cool. Might think about it.

BB I got the Garmin speed/cadence sensor and the cadence never worked no matter how much I faffed with it. The speed works for the turbo trainer though.... I'd buy a bike specific thingy if I was you. x

I've just bought the cadence sensor for the 405 (same as 305 one) and it works a treat. You definitely need to know your cadence as most people, me included, have a tendency to push too big a gear.
