Thanks for the input guys lots to think about.
As I said I have a road bike and a MTB so the idea is a bike that will do a bit of everything so that when away for the weekend or holidays I only need to take 1 bike, I dont do out and out MTB stuff and I only do the odd Dualathon on the road, still thinking on it.

Loon Dod have you thought of maybe sticking semi slick or slick tyres on your mtb or even sticking a smaller cassette on the back?

If it wasn't peeing with rain I'd go and check the tyres on my hybrid, which are just about perfect semi-slick do everythings. I've got an MTB and a road bike, but on average about 60-70% of my mileage is on my hybrid.

If that is the case Loon dod, an MTB with an extra set of wheels would be the way forward... road wheels and off road wheels, with a different casette on the road wheels. That would make for an easy swap as well, when you want to change over, as long as you get the sram quick link thingy for the chains...

Cheers Guys did not make the Bike shop this weekend, will get in later this week and check things out, of course I will still have cash burning a hole in pocket if go the extra set of wheels route which means that I need to decide to upgrade my MTB or my road bike.

Indeed. Could've done with you earlier as my desire to swim last night was being called into question...
