Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

DT ... scones look fantastic.

But are you allowed cream and jam *with* fruit scones? Hmmmm. Only butter if they have fruit in them.... that was the rule when I was a girl

Plain scones.. fine for cream and jam.

😀

We had butter. I don’t particularly like cream and whipped or clotted cream just isn’t for me

Incidentally I tweaked the Mary Berry recipe with a couple of good punches of salt and think the resulting scones were better for it

Anita Bean Cherry Oat Cookies - makes 16

100g spelt or plain flour
125g jumbo oats
100g butter
75g brown sugar
1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
1 tsp vanilla essence
100g glace cherries, cut into quarters
1/2 egg, beaten

Preheat oven to 190C/gas mark 5 and line a baking tray.

Combine flour, oats, butter, maple syrup and vanilla extract and mix well. Stir in the cherries. Add egg and mix until it clumps together.

Roll into walnut sized balls, place on tray approx 1" apart and flatten lightly with a fork. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until light golden. Cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Variations - sub 50g dried cranberries for the cherries or 100g raisins.

I'd really recommend the newer AB books, they have some great 'healthy' bakes in that are acceptable to my husband - my MiL thinks her black bean brownies are better than normal brownies!
