Pothunter 50% of the featured autistic people were female. What do you feel they were missing in terms of representation?

swittle Thanks for posting the link to that programme on Qwerty's blog.
Is the programme aimed at people who are not autistic themselves and want to learn more about how autism affects autistic people, or is there something for autistic people to watch and learn things?

My bad halfpint. In my head I had it that there were 3 guys and one girl. Don’t know where I got that from, I only watched it yesterday 🤦‍♂️

Flatlander Although I no longer teach, I realised I could do more to adjust my approaches to engaging students - whom I now know to live with ASD. To answer your question, with Mr Packham presenting, there's a high profile figure who's made no secret of how he lives with ASD. I can see that he may come over as combative at times but believe that choosing a presenter with ASD is apt.
I watch to learn: and there was much to gain for the majority non-ASD audience. For those with ASD, such a prominent platform can only promote the case for better recognition and differentiated services and support.

Thanks for the recommendation of the tv programme but phew, that was an emotional watch. I blubbed most of the time Flo was taking about herself because almost everything she said resonated with me. I feel worn out now.

I've just watched the second episode in the 'Inside Our Autistic Minds' series. Two young men live with their autism in quite different and individual ways, reflecting the range of challenges met by those who have found they have to live in a non-autistic world. Presenter, Chris Packham is growing on me, not least because of his uncanny resemblance to John Lydon. :)

No spoilers - but the two learn as much about their families and friends as their families and friends do. Thought provoking and heartening.

Oh, don't say that, Switts.
I've always loathed John Lydon.
I'd hate to have to stop loving Chris Parkham because of him.

Does anyone know what's involved in the diagnosis process for autism? Is there a test, how does it ...
