Chris Packham is growing on me, not least because of his uncanny resemblance to John Lydon. |

possibly deliberate - he is a big sex pistols fan and has said many times that punk saved his life as a teenager. A good point - he said during the programme that he had collected 2500 punk singles. |

Rae: Lydon's a 'Marmite' personality, without doubt. And I like Marmite... A recent 'Profile' programme on BBC Radio 4 presented Chris as a maverick, amongst his many other facets. bbc.co.uk |

I've been a big fan of Packham since his Really Wild Show days, of course now I wonder if the autism connection is a part of that. I'll just have to try and conveniently ignore any fondness he might have for bloody Johnny rotten, who I frankly wouldn't piss on if he was on fire. |

I’m with you on that point Rae, his only redeeming feature seen recently was how much he cares for his wife who has Alzheimer’s, he was trying to become Ireland’s entry to Eurovision with a song he had written to try and gently jog her memory about things they had done, think he ended up quite low down, like in 11th. I have always liked Chris Packham however. Top of my list of favourite autistics has to be Gary Numan. I found the program interesting. Especially the second episode, music is a huge thing for me, it’s nearly always playing in my head. |

I'm with jelly that the 2nd episode was interesting (as was the first). It made me think about my hypersensitivities in a slightly different way. I liked Packham's explanation about welcoming his immersion in nature and all its stimuli, whereas he tries to get away from certain different stimuli elsewhere. I hadn't given it any thought before that I do something similar. I admit I got very tense in the descriptive lead up to Ethan's all-surround cinema movie presentation. I tried to watch it but was soon covering my eyes and trying to shut my ears. From the conversations afterwards, it sounds as if his movie was very good. |

I've just watched episode 2. I really hope many more people will watch it, including my child. I think for those who are autistic and those who are not, we can all learn not to assume others experience the world in the same way.

I think they’ve done a really good job capturing 4 very different experiences of autism. I feel that sometimes parents and school staff think that a diagnosis will provide all the answers but each individual has their own unique set of strengths and pressures. We’re trying as a multidisciplinary team to support schools/families to create a profile of individual needs.

Many thanks for the recent responses to the 2nd episode. Involving the individual in the identification, planning and realisation of needs, preferences and 'triggers', for example, does seem to offer a more positive way forward with a minimum of hindrances.

Thank you swittle for that. I would imagine that involving people in their own management should in most cases be beneficial. As I wrote in my previous post, the programme made me think about my hypersensitivities, which I have just written about. You may have different experiences and processes, but what I have written is how it is for me. |
