Nice one Hmer, next time you might get into 90% :-)

Oh Greg, just to provide an example of how much more your body can do when you want it to. Last year a did Prague Marathon and it was HOT, near on 30 degrees hot and that drove up the heart rate and perceived effort. I ran the whole race at over 85%WHR an dstill managed a 20 minute PB. Yes it hurt but not THAT much... :-)

I'm a great believer in getting the recovery runs done at an appropriate intensity and speed. I believ that we should push very hard when it's appropriate too - like in races. Otherwise why do we race? I don't race to beat myself up about not going hard enough. I want to get over that line feeling like there was no way I could have given it any more. That's how I do my speed sessions too :-)

I felt great when I finished the St Albans tri last year. Told a coach chum of mine who promptly bollocked me.

Seems I haven't embraced this pain thing yet. Maybe yesterday was the start of a new chapter. 'How the Fetch 5k no-mans-land thread changed my life' by M. Ediocre-Triathlete'.

That 5k, back in November, still stands as my best performance to date (though I WILL beat it). At the end I keeled over and lay on my back until some other Fetchies did the "you awrite mate?"....and I smiled.

During the race I went from feeling like throwing up, to legs burning, to bloody determination and then back round again. I didn't feel comfortable for any bit of the race.

And I LOVED IT :-)

All I need now is to work out how the heck to do it again ....so I'm eading this thread.

IanM - after due consideration I have decided I don't like the term "recovery run" any more. (This following research quoted in RW showing that recovery runs do not in fact aid recovery). Nope, from now on I am going to call them "Extra Easy Mileage Because I Can" :-)

Snaps - isn't that wahat used to be called "junk mileage"?

Mediocrity - I can *do* that (when Ian and the usual suspects aren't looking).

No such thing as Junk mileage, I coach and sometimes I have to run at 12minmile pace. It makes you think about form.

Snaps [chuckle]
no such thing as junk miss IMHO either. I run easy cos I believe it helps me to recover and peeps me for the next session. What it actually does is largely irrelavent because I enjoy it and wouldn't have it any other way! I have yet to grow then gentleman's vegetables to do more than one hard session per day but then I am not The Devil :-)

Gobi, brill link! :-)
