KinkyS - great idea, except that my 305 display seems to give one stat in smaller numbers than if I have two stats at the same time :-( and so it's harder for me to read. Mind you my eyesight will soon be so bad I won't be able to read ANY HRM, so it won't matter and I won't even have to tape the watch over

GregP - LOL

I'm still waiting for a Garmin with a little TV in it. Watching soaps during a training run would rule.

I'd look at cadence - I just know I would (it was 91 last night, up from my normal 87-89).

Greg try running some intervals where you really really cane it, short ones like 200s. Gobi , number 8 or Mic will have some ideas for you. At the last one make it the fastest one you do despite your tiredness. You will start to realise how fast you actually are!

I strongly advise you to do a 5k too and set off as you think way too fast and make yourself hang on. If you do it with the HRM play a game of making the dial go over your 85% for the duration and not letting it drop. It's great fun! :-)

I've got a 3k tonight, as it goes. Might set my lower alarm for 85 and try to make it shut up. Are you serious, btw?

Got a 5k Sunday week, but that's off the bike so will be a bit wibbly.

Snaps - not sure how you make your 305 do that? On mine, the single field display showing just time is in huuuuuge numbers compared when I have pace, distance or any other malarky on there as well. There's probably an obscure setting somewhere that changes these things, but don't ask me where to find it LOL!

Last nights 5K I averaged 90% and max'd at 98%. Needless to say I was a bit wobbly at the end. :-)

Yes Greg, totally serious. It works very well for me. The theory is sound too. If you read anyting to do with the Central Governor in the Lore of Running you will understand.

Basically our perception is always set at a very very generous safety limit so what we think is too fast, too hard etc actually isn't as fast or as hard as we CAN go especially in a short race. I wouldn't advise it on a half mara or longer BUT it does help massively on short races.

As Gobi says, bring the pain

Oh and remember to enjoy it :-)
