What no mention of The Necks - Travel in the list, which is out today? Very floaty, long form bass, drums, piano/vibes not much else and they don't need anything else.

They are on the other list, the albumoftheyear.org one.

Thanks for the reminder on Hundred Reasons Dvorak . Saw an ad for it a couple weeks ago and had it in mind for a listen.

I think that Genius list tends to favour American artists.

And speaking of which - I tried to listen to the Godsmack album tonight. Thought a bit of heavy metal wouldn't go amiss for a change. Got two tracks in and turned it off. Very standard heavy rock but with added alt.right bollocks too about loving the ol' red white n blue. No, fuck off to fuck off town the lot of you.

Gave R Ring a final listen after last time about 10 days ago, was meh after last listen, wow now definitely a massive thumbs up, love the way music can get into your subconscious and sound completely different a week apart,

same with Jockstrap which I gave a last listen to before removing from my album list, another one that will now be on rotation for me!

So....

I listened to the Yo La Tengo album last weekend and I thought there were some interesting things in there but that overall it wasn't so good. 50/100

I listened to it a second time and thought, hey this is pretty good actually. 70/100

So I listened a third time and loved it. 90/100

And now I've booked a ticket to see them live :-)

I never advanced passed stage 1 on Yo La Tengo and I've got their supposed best lp "I can hear the heart beating as one" on vinyl! Just never happened for me.

Been checking down the back of the sofa for those not mentioned on the release list lps, and there are a few nice ones.

En Attendant Ana - Principia (French indie a la Electrelane/Stereolab - but with some trumpet/sax)

Laure Briard - Ne pas trop rester bleu (French Laurel Canyon/60s vibe with a whiff of Brasil mpb for good measure - not far removed from a sunnier, less portentious Weyes Blood - a couple of duff tracks, but some outstanding summer pop - "The smell of your hair", "Ne pas trop rester bleu" - "frog pop" when done well just cannot be beaten )

The Necks - Travel - (Geoff Dyer is totally obsessed with them - see nytimes.com - his quote "(The Necks) are sometimes categorised as a jazz trio – which is fine as long as this is immediately qualified by adding that they’ve completely re-conceived the idea of the jazz trio.” " - he's right they are outstanding, but you have to tune into their universe, usually a 40 to minute, hour long improvisation - this one is 4 20 minute tracks so unusually brief).

Tongue Depressor - Bones For Time (Weird Americana/droney stuff that has some wonderfully poetic titles - "Hymns of mud", and makes time go agreeably shinbone shaped)

Natalia Beylis & Eimear Reidy - She Came Through the Window to Stand by the Door (More long form stuff, this time cello and 2nd oldest organ in Ireland, less pastoral than their debut, which was mossy spring morning, this is more brackish earth on the last days of autumn and doorways in the trunks of trees)

En Attendant Ana - Principia (French indie a la Electrelane/Stereolab - but with some trumpet/sax) listened to this one last week, it was on the AOTY list. Good album though.
