I really enjoyed the new Orbital album. I didn’t think there was anything on there as immediately stunning as Belfast or their live version of the Doctor Who theme, but that’s a pretty high bar to clear. Home, featuring Anna B Savage, was wonderful.

I've been away from the thread listening to lots of Taylor Swift et al, so I'm sorry, I will be dumping reviews of those into the great Review-engine shortly.
So to get back to matters at hand, I've listened to the (Pigs)^7 album as a... er... palette cleanser. Blimey that was shouty.

McG I have been listening to Taylor as well, just reviewed Speak Now, reputation and 1989. I've listened to Pigs x7 and if I was to summarize in one word it would be 'Angry'. I'll give it a few more listens before I condemn it to the <50% pile.
Gaz Coombes on the (virtual) turntable now.

I wish I'd added my reviews as I went along. Trying to add 15 reviews now is a bit of a pain.

I have listened to four albums on the trot
1. Pigsx7 - rather enjoyed this. I scored it quite highly, possibly because it made my ears do a 180 degree turn after listening to Taylor Swift's Midnights album!
2. Gaz Coombes - thought this was okay but not more than that. Really lacked a standout track I thought. The songs were really blending into each other by the end. I seem to be at odds with most of the reviews who think it's one of the best releases out right now. I just can't see it myself.
3. Orbital - actually quite disliked this. I suppose they were always part of a house/rave/dance culture I was never part of so I don't have an 'in'. Seemed like it could have come from any time in the last 30 years.
4. Hamish Hawk - now this I loved. He does sing a little bit like Morrissey but also like the guy out of The Vaccines (or at a stretch that bloke out of Editors). Also shades of Richard Hawley. Really inventive lyrics and some great tunes too.

I think the answer is you have no taste
Gas Coombes is ace. Pigs x7 presently the driving CD
Pale Blue Eyes - Souvenirs is also excellent.
Hamish Hawk singles have been brilliant too.

I think I have Gaz Coombes blindness. I really should get tested.
Not sure if my favourite Pigs track is the shouty one where he gets angry or the angry one where he gets shouty.

I've listened to 3 of those albums just not the Gaz Coombes one. I liked the Pigs X7 one and the Hamish Hawk one as well. I didn't dislike the Orbital one but it was a bit like this is the same as they were doing back in the 90s, but hey if it ain't broke why fix it.
