Thanks, Mcg and Joopsy. I'm prepared for it being a 1/10 album, but I felt like it would have more variety of style than, say, a Schubert song cycle of similar length.

VP, I can guarantee that some of my suggestions will get a minus score, I like them and that’s what matters. Great to see you here but make sure you take something different in return.

Dvorak
If we are going for "not the usual" suggestions, some might like to try modern classical composer Luke Howard's "All Of Us", an album inspired by lockdown in Australia, but framed around Albert Camus' "La Peste (The Plague").

An actual 2022 work I have listened to.

Available in the usual places, including as a vinyl LP.

(Regarding other suggestions: I tried a multiply recommended (on the other thread) 2022 LP. Lasted about a minute into track 4. Couldn't stand any more. Well, it would be boring if we all just liked the same stuff :-p )

I didn't want to smackdown anyone's favourite child, Joopsy ;-) But one problem I have, is that a lot of stuff, I think "I've heard this all before. And better." Which is why I'm appreciating different things, like the Luke Howard, or going back to the, ahem, Old School (not an album, but for example Photek's recently rebroadcast Essential Mix, first broadcast twenty-five years and three days ago today bbc.co.uk )

Heard Thus Love on Radio 6 this morning and am now enjoying what I’ve found :)

Dvorak: I'm somewhat the same with Yard Act. It's been highly acclaimed, but I've struggled to click with it.

I'll be interested to follow this thread. I often find artists fairly late. I had a friend who was great for recommendations, but he moved and I never got back into the habit of searching new stuff as much. Spotify has helped, but new suggestions are always good.

I have done my first one.

Rachael and Vilray were on Jools last night and I liked the sound of them. Played the whole 2019 album while cleaning this morning. I liked it but kinda wanted it to be over halfway through.

I would play again but probably as background music.

About This Thread

Maintained by McGoohan
As a spin-off from Joopsy's excellent Albums of 2022 thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/albums-of-2022-62537/ this is a new thread where we commit to listen to one new album a week in 2023. Allowing a couple of weeks off for life commitments etc, that's 50 albums in the year.
EDIT - new and improved (i.e. exactly the same) for 2024
