Sensible to take a shorter run when you're still not well FF, hope it goes soon.

Hope the sneezing is better hs and a great run.

I have decided to have a go at Run the Sum again so ticking along. I do have a tendency to struggle running every day but I'll just take it easy and see how it goes. Its keeping me out of mischief though along with adding in the odd faster mile for my virtual mile training

Hope you're recovering well LL.

I am sure my glutes & quads are still a bit tired after Kielder but that was almost 3 weeks ago - is that possible? I'd have expected them to be ok by now (or am I impatient?)

I see too that there are lots of lower WAVA amongst much younger people than you hs. But (!). .. let's face it, you are not typical of a bloke of your age! That given I'll guess that most people still running into their 70s have a long history of running so will eclipse a lot of Saturday young, absolutely recreational runners. Your training and efforts are quite remarkable I think .
Ugh to the lurgy FF but still a good eight miler which takes some doing if you're still "chesty".
Struggling to run every day is not really the way to go gg! (Says he who has struggled to run at all this last many months!). Factoring in appropriate rest days or day is imperative if you want positive physical adaptation to impact on your fitness and overall well being. Tired muscles three weeks after your event are trying to tell you something. You've done fantastically well over the last year regardless.
Rest day for me after four run days on a trot. Weights and stretches instead.

Thanks GG, the sneezing has nearly stopped 😀
I believe that rest days are essential, to prevent overuse injuries. I've never stuck ridgily to training schedules, and have rested or done an easier run instead, when appropriate.

Thanks Steve for your kind words. I suppose that I have been very lucky throughout my running career, as I had been relatively injury free until my menisci tears in 2017.
You have earned today's rest day, but don't overdo the weights and stretches.

This morning was a very tough hill reps session with the Wednesday Group. It comprised 5 minutes continuously up and down each of 3 hills, with recoveries only between the hills. There was approximately a 1 mile run out and back. The hills were grassy and rooty, so we had to watch our footing, especially running down hill.

An easy 6 this morning for me avoiding tomorrow's rain. Still feel drained of running energy but feel ok in myself. Weird.

Sounded like a good plan yesterday FF, doing an easy pace run. Hopefully, taking it easier for another day or two should help.

I'm not running today, but taking the bus into Southampton to have a wander around. We have to use our oap bus passes now and again, otherwise they won't renew them. They will come in useful too, as photographic evidence when voting.

Phew, that's some hill session hs! Some luck but some genetics and good training have given you your superb results.

I enjoy my bus pass too but they don't take them from you if you don't use them here in Wales. For various reasons I don't drive any more so public transport is my go-to mode, makes adventures more difficult but I've adapted well.
Drained of running energy FF is a pain in the rear. That's where I've been for too long and patiently putting in modest miles and expecting to recover at some point.

New running shoes on the way (Saucony) even though I've got a few miles still left in three other rotating pairs. (One Saucony and two Hoka).
3.3 road jog this morning with a steep hill. I walked it out of necessity. No, I don't overdo weights hs, just enough to keep some muscle tone (although it's barely visible!!).

Struggling to run every day is fitting it into life more than anything else and rest assured most will be easy paced runs. I’ll see how it goes I won’t be upset if it doesn’t pan out.

5 before work this morning and off to the boat tonight so I’m very excited and ready for a long chilled weekend.

Hope your energy renews soon FF and glad you’re feeling a bit better hs. Enjoy Southampton I miss my trips there when my husbands brother lived down there (now in France)

Enjoy the new shoes too Steve! Hopefully they put a spring in your step.

I have some new kit coming today my colleagues gifted me a voucher for North Face as a new job present - blooming expensive shop but I got a wind resistant jacket in the sale and a waist belt for my running poles (that I don’t tend to use but bought for WHW)

Thanks all. I avoided the rain this morning 😁😁 we made the most of me being home by going shopping.
I'm too young for a bus pass but despite the free travel you are restricted with the timetables. Mind you if you're retired is time that important?
I'm collecting a new (ish) pair of trainers tomorrow from our sons friend, he's done 2 miles in them and decided they are slightly too small. I think these are the ones that caused my PF last year but I intend alternating these with my other shoes which I've just started doing. I used to wear 1 pair at a time and wear them up to 500 ish miles but I now have 2 pairs on 750 ish miles and a newer pair. No feet problems currently and hope that continues.
Nice new kit thanks to work colleagues is a bonus GG and enjoy your long weekend away.

Time is important when one's time is running out FF😂! More seriously though it's surprising how time seems (to me) to be just as important as when I was working. Nothing worse than wasting time like waiting too long for a bus. Nice to have trainers to alternate and I hope those feet stay pain free.
As for miles in shoes, I've done 975 in a pair (Hoka) and they'll be ok for another hundred or so; nearly 800 in another pair of Saucony and 850 in another Saucony pair and I'm still wearing all these pairs. Where I go down periodically on the heel I use Shoe Goo on them .
3.4 miles on a mixed surface this morning. Brrr at only 1c but with glorious sunshine.
