olde english
cant sse this being mentioned anywhere so......currently using zwift a fair bit as running injured and whilst browsing info... stumbled across indievelo and had a very short pop on it this AM. Rather impressed..think its a couple of ex zwift developers and they ve gone away and made something the same but pointed more at 'fair' racing. currently free as its still 'beta' . not fully played but get the early feels that for racing its rather good (wind and braking plus all on the same bike) and for just pootling about zwift is more distracting.

Anyone doing Zwift Academy this year?

They’ve simplified it this year, and I wonder if that’s because there have been issues in previous years. No test before and after the programme this year, and no group workouts. Also just one workout to choose from each time, so no cut down/easier ones available.

I’ve done the first 2 and they’re very tough.

There was an introductory group ride which I did, but that was just 30 minutes with some text commentary on the Academy set up.

I've done WKO 1, but I didn't push it on the freeride bits, just rode them at a normal effort intensity for that length of interval so I didn't find it too hard.

@Yorkshire Mince Pie Good work, looking focussed there (and loving the TdFemmes photos in your blog :-) )

This Zwift bike thing is just monetizing what we've always done for turbo training. 25 years ago I had an old steel frame set up with just gears and no brakes that was permanently stuck on the turbo; and visiting the houses/sheds/garages of fellow racers, they all had similar set ups. Mine had a quick release seat clamp for saddle height adjustment - there were two of us in that particular household with similar needs ;-)

@Big_G I did the second Academy workout last night. Those sprint sections were brutal! It was all I could do in the 30sec freeride at the end of each, to just trundle along at 80-90%. Not designed for a 60-year-old diesel :-)

Looking at the next ones, I don't think there's anything quite so mad.

Advanced to level 30 last night. I have found that the training has helped enormously and has been a key factor in my staying healthy, however you have to keep it up. I did a repeat session last night and struggled to maintain the wattage

Use it or lose it.

During the first year of lockdowns I did little more than steady rides around the local lanes. Once TTs were back on it took me a good 6 months to get that top end back.

OranJ did my first actual tt bike tt since 2022 down in Wales the other week.

You forget how hard it is to get power out when you don't ride in position.
