"but then on the descent if neither of us pedal the heavier rider will get to the bottom first". That will happen in the real world as well though, wouldn't it? Or have I totally showed myself up by misremembering my GSCE Physics knowledge from 25+ years ago! Gravity basically, leading to the heavier rider to have increased velocity.

Urrrm, 25 years ago was not right. Let's try 30. Ooooph.

That's my point though - if it happens in the real world it doesn't need to happen in the game.
Shouldn't the game offer something a little different, so that when I race my lightweight sister she doesn't get any climbing advantages over me and I don't get descending / flat advantages over her when both of us are working to an FTP equivalent to 3.0w/kg.
I can see why they aim to replicate the real world, I just think there's a potential opportunity to ditch the real world and live a virtual cycling life instead!

Oh right, sorry. I'm happy it tries to mimic the physics, personally. For me, I guess it's kind of a training tool, and I don't want any surprises when I go back outside! I think Zwift does offer different things though compared to the real world - i.e., ERG mode, access to different bikes, instant race results (okay, I know Zwift race results can be flawed), the power ups, access to different worlds, no traffic, etc. All that, for me, is arguably better than the real world, but personally I'm happy with the physics side of it. I note you said "race" and not "ride" with your sister, but if you just wanted to ride with her, you could do that via a meet up and set it so no one gets dropped.

I think in my head it just feels like the slight advantages of light / heavy weight when played out drafting, descending are just a bit unnecessary.
If I've understood the game engine properly, climbing relies particularly on w/kg and the bike weight with rider weight playing relatively little part.
Whereas descending / drafting makes more use of real world height / weight (as well as bike choice).

Rider weight plays little part when you hold W/kg fixed but it’s a major determinant of W/kg in the first place!

Exactly! That's the query; why bother creating small physics differences?

They are not “creating differences”. They are just simulating physics, the differences arise from the simulation. The whole point of Zwift is to be a virtual cycling simulator.

Oh god are we back to moaning about zwift again .
It works, we race , things are not perfect.
