For anyone interested in badges/XP/routes, I see there is a "badge hunter" series coming up through March. I have done a few of these routes but it's an opportunity to tick off the ones I've not done. zwift.com |

Nice win jda, a win's a win. Still following the FTP builder plan, so far being riding each of the 4 or 5 sessions per week and started doing the sessions on the Alpe for the "free XP" and to built some experience on the lower slopes (not that the game feeds back to my trainer, but familiarity with the route can't harm). My ambition at the end of the 6 week programme is to have another tilt at going up the Alpe at my best endeavours which I'd like (as an A goal) to be under an hour. My best of 2 attempts was 1:06:53 averaging 214W (2.85w/kg based on current weight). I can't see weight dropping over the period, so at 75kg I'd need to be in the mid 240s to get under the hour. I'm probably over-reaching in terms of the ambition (certainly at the moment riding invervals at 220-230w for 6-7 minutes feels sufficiently challenging to make me doubt whether exceeding that for an hour is a realistic prospect), but we'll see. B goal would be say sub 1:03 and C goal for at least bettering last summer's attempt. |

Really? FTP currently (based on ramp test) is c.240 and that's based on me jumping on zwift without cycling for about 5 months. I did try hard last summer, but I was a long way from being cycling adapted, so following this 6 week plan will definitely put me in better shape, and I reckon if I gave the Alpe a try this weekend I'd be pretty close to 1:07 capable. I suppose I was hoping for a steep-ish improvement curve on the basis that aerobically I'm OK at the moment but leg strength wise I'm not. My only two attempts have been a 1:07 and a 1:22, so I've not really got much "PB" to rely on for good data. Maybe I need to factor in a preliminary "test" in a couple of weeks to guage where I'm up to - maybe trying to hold 3.3+w/kg for 30 minutes or so to see where I am? I've done 3.6w/kg in a 30 minute race last year, so that should be achievable-ish. |

Sorry, facetious comment really, if you're struggling to beat it, it must be too high

LOL! Funny, I have a reputation for sandbagging on running challenges (though I don't think I do). My 10m running PB is just under 1:07 and I know if I posted saying "if I train for 6 weeks, do you think I'll be able to crack an hour" I'd get laughed out of the park (rightly!) so I am aware of the gulf between "current" and "aspiration". I suppose I don't like the fact that in running terms I'm a strong mid-70s WAVA runner, but in cycling terms I'm a long way away from that. So I think there's scope for levelling myself up a fair whack with a bit of focus. OTOH, my weight / flab I think will count against me more on Zwift than it does running on the roads. |
