Larkim, I wouldn't rule anything out, I thought as a fairly experienced (but at that time rather unfit) cyclist I would quickly hit a plateau last autumn but although the gains certainly slowed after the initial few weeks, I just keep on nudging the power curve up a little here and there, pretty much every week. Numbers that were completely out of reach back in Oct are now looking increasingly attainable.

Cheers jda, will be interesting to see if there is any progress as an experimental user!

larkim, I've just jumped onto the FTP Builder 6-week programme too. I'm going to try and do all the sessions but I'll also do the odd race or free ride, plus probably add some miles onto the foundation sessions, so it'll be interesting to see if anything happens. I did a ramp test yesterday before doing the first session so I have a baseline. It had improved but not drastically (256 to 266), and I think the improvement really was down to I'm more used to the test now.

ig_G - definately a level of you get better at testing

Funny I have heard mixed things about the FTP builder, make sure any extra training you do is just easy/steady volume.

My FTP has gone up recently which is pleasing, I train in quite a polarized way. I am not just below Aplus which is great for me. Today was good as it backed up what I had done on the UCI KOM at the weekend.

Raced Crit city this morning at nearly 350 watts and came 4th, made a mistake after the cobbles rather than on them(didn't see the gap from the guy in front of me) and burned too many matches to get back. Nothing left for the sprint.

Gobi, thanks. Yeah, the extra miles be easy (when I say easy, I mean Z2/blue on Zwift). If I do a race, I'll possibly just knock the harder session on the head that week, but I'll just see how it goes. I'm back from my fall now (I've ran twice this week, having not ran for 4 weeks) so I'm not totally sure how I'm going to balance the training, as running is still my priority, but I'll play it be ear. I do have a duathlon in mind in 7 weeks, hence jumping on the 6 week programme, as it fits quite well from that regard. For a beginner, hopefully the programme is okay as a starter; what I did notice from yesterday's easy session was that it told me to vary the cadence even at the base power, which is something I don't do usually as it's not something I've thought about too much before. Well done on your race.

Gobi, have you had any feedback on the BMU training program? I'm finding it hard work .... did the #8 session last night and nearly killed myself holding 120% FTP efforts for two minutes, it was meant to be a VO2 max builder but I'm not sure that my leg strength actually matches my CV system!

Big_G - if in recover and build you only run Z1/2 plus drop the session when you race then all should be fine

NE - I havent but if it feels a little hard Id just dial it down a few % - are you tracking heart rate and power ?

Now that TdZ has stopped I may find it harder to pick a convenient slot for easy riding - at least with TdZ there was a half hourly one to go for - so I may have to settle for riding routes at sub 2 effort for the days when there's no session.

I seem to spend a very large amount of my time on Tempus Fugit
