However, if you walk up you can then take your dog on the train on the way down. The Cairngorm Mountain railway rules were put in place as a condition of it's development to mitigate environmental concerns as Reiver says. But as no-one can stop you walking up with or without canine companion, they may as well get some money out of you on the way down. The excuse about 'facilities' seems a bit contrived, but may be code for "we are concerned about your dog's bladder and bowel activity as you can't get out at the top".
