I find I like trying hard some weeks and let other weeks slack-off a bit so I hover around 20th in the table. It I get too high up I know I can't compete, but it's nice to have a nice to have a bit of a battle occasionally which someone you know (hey Doc? :-) ) I always put training above the game though so if a session means I need to run somewhere flat I capture fewer squares and I'm ok with that.

Similarly, I've found my level and can maintain that purely on the background noise of regular training, with a few tweaks if the current match is close. My normal commute offers more points, because running and cycling, but even lockdown exercise is enough.

I'm resigned to not getting beyond the last 16/32 in the multi, though, although that might be an idea for a shake of the dice next time ...

I used to pay a lot of attention, and managed to claw my way up to about 15th place - but now that I've finally admitted to myself that my body has fallen apart and running's over for me, I've fallen down to 100th. And yet I'm *still* getting matched against hyper-mileage sub-4 marathoners...

If I stay in the game and stick to my training plan I would be like CW and drop down the league a bit. I would then have the risk that I get competitive and ignore the plan to focus on the game.

I could alternatively stay in the game but not actively play and see how it goes....or actively play on certain days.

Bazo, similar to me, I dropped down the table intentionally, but still feel the need to try win, but I'm trying to be sensible. I now force myself to have rest days whatever happens with WSW, but sometimes it's just so hard

I have a love hate relationship with this game!
You have to see it with the pros and cons...
For me the pros are it gets me out most days and makes me run a bit further than I may of done.

The cons are it stops me going further afield and training in the mountains as often as I should when I have a race coming up!
At the moment it’s ideal in lockdown👌🏻
The real ‘positive’ about this game is the lovely people who play it and the encouragement they give🤗

1 point in it at the moment! You are up on mileage and squares but I'm hanging in there. I think I will need some well chosen routes over the next 2 days.

Well said Wallman.

Baz, I too will be having to prioritise training over the game in a few months (assuming my injury passes that's stopped all activity for the last few week) to get in shape for a sub3 marathon come next October (and I'll have to assume it's on way before a decision is made). in any case, I've shown, myself at least, that I can play this game with self-imposed obsession-proof rules for more than a year now. And yes, it's hard sometimes, as Minimag says. Let's take the good (there's a lot of it) and move past the bad.
