I gave on Tuesday. For the first time I was offered biscuits before donation! Don't tend to take any of the snacks on offer as I don't like chocolate and rarely eat crisps Also, I usually try to get an appointment time that means I'm heading home for dinner anyway.

Been 9 years since my last donation 😠and from googling it, I cant see that they have made any progress in the research to allow people who have received transfusions to donate.
My fiance is also currently banned for a year due to low iron levels.

I was only banned for 6 months for my low iron. Wonder if it's Scotland thing? Or a threshold of lowness thing (I was only just below.) G

I think this might have been her second time and this time it was a bit lower HG. She eats loads of iron rich foods though and bloods from doctors have come back fine so not really sure what it's about.
I always go with her so that I feel like I can still support it in some way but it's frustrating. I do get given biscuits as well though, usually shortbread.

Weird. My diet is terrible so I'm not surprised I'm deficient in some things. Shame for your partner though Roberto if she eats a good diet. I was low in iron a few years ago, when I went quite soon after an ultra - apparently endurance sport destroys red blood cells or something? Had she exercised heavily in previous 24 hours?

It depends on the level, HappyG. I have had 3 month and 12 month bans in the past.

No, she isnt one for exercising heavily. Occasional parkruns and some exercise classes but nothing heavy. Just monitoring for now.

Roberto: I can see how frustrating it is, having had a transfusion, not to be allowed to contribute back. Great work assisting fiance and sorry that's blocked for the time being. Could you encourage family / friends / colleagues to do it? Would that help?
