I last donated on the hottest day of the year and had a refillable bottle with me anyway. Definitely a good idea for them to suggest that to people in their comms.

Thanks all. And good point about feeding back.

The water cups they had were recyclable at least but the hot drink cups weren’t. So I didn’t have a hot drink and just stuck with my water bottle. Much faster for me today than last time and no gymnastics required to get the blood out. They are asking about a new thing...errr...HVLT?? Never heard of it and no idea if i’ve Been in contact with it but the nurse said I would know if I had.

Other new thing in place was that the nurse who did my questionaire and blood drop also took me to my blood donating chair and did the needle etc.

And sometimes it’s the little things isn’t it? The nurse who unplugged me folded the edges of the tape over on itself so it was much nicer to pull off. It’s the bit I hate most about giving that nasty, sticky, hair pulling tape. Sent her some good karma vibes for that one. heart

KatieB: they do have alternative dressings. Every time I mean to shave that part of the arm: only once have I remembered!

I hate pulling off that tape and always ask for a bandage instead.

I’ve received a letter from the blood service telling me I have access to an appointment booking hotline for O negative donors. Apparently they can get me an appointment at any session even if it’s fully booked.

Nice, FDNB :)

eL Bee! and I have managed to find local appointments this coming Friday. It'll be good to get it done and will cure me of any sneaking temptation to go over to Yorkshire, start the marathon, and see how far I get.

That’s interesting FDNB. I had a letter too but didn’t read it beyond the fact they’re badging us O negs as “first responders.” Will look again, I get frustrated with the lack of choice sometimes.
