This email from the editors of a major legal academic handbook:
"We thought this was an excellent chapter and you do a great job at setting out the Arctic and Antarctic regimes. We think the chapter will fit nicely with XXXX’s chapter on peoples at the Poles and the environmentally focused chapters. We note that you have extensively cross referenced and would like to thank you for being so aware of the broader project aims. We are aware that this is a bit over length but we have not identified relevant places to cut it – it is all interesting and relevant! We actually have no substantive comments (yours is the only one so far without substantive comments). We did think that some of YYYY’s sentences need a bit of re-working as they are occasionally long and a bit convoluted at times but we thought ITG could take her red pen to this section! So thank you both for making our job so easy as editors."
I don't think I've EVER had feedback like that on a first draft. I'm positively beaming.

[hahaha, um, never thought of that. One of the editors is the chap who invited me to Hawaii so I'm extra relieved not to have disappointed. The pressure is now on to write a stonker for the Hawaii conference though.
How is that after 24 years of doing this shit, I still have doubts ever time I submit a paper?]
