Eating pasta for breakfast is unnecessary; being seen to eat pasta for breakfast in order to look like a serious marathon runner to potential sponsors may be a sound public relations move.

I tried to eat pasta for 'breakfast' the day of the Great Birmingham Run.
I discovered that (a) force feeding myself pasta at 09:00 was impossible and (b) races with a lunchtime start time don't suit my temperamental digestive system.

A few years before I forgot that Jude had a Stella waiting for me and bombed straight passed. gutted.

Yep 8:30 for me too, time for breakfast, chill, fetchie meet up, dump bag and head to the start pen
Some good advice I have had is to bring something to sit on and take the weight off your feet whilst waiting for the start, we'll be on our feet for long enough.
