LN - depends on where you are, and what you are swimming in. Lakes will be colder than sea in winter, but once spring comes along will warm up more quickly. If you want to swim in the sea, the channelcoastalobservatory website has realtime data from bouys all round England (not just the channel) which include wave height and temp - currently about 9 by me and 7 in the North East. In previous years I have been in the sea late April, early May, and it's been over 10 by then.

It will be the Serpentine Lido, can't easily get to the coast. It's currently 4 degrees - I'll be waiting for it to hit double figures

Picture taken at a bitterly cold Lifeboat Road beach, near Formby this afternoon. Hard-as-nails woman in standard costume waded out into the surf until waist deep, then returned to her family. I said that, if I'd had a hat on, I'd have taken it off to her!

That's a great picture! She is proper hard as nails!
Achieved my first "in the snow" swim today - get in!! To be fair as we entered the water it had stopped but we were in the snow so it counts??! LOL!!!
I say "we" this is my swim bud and we're being totally respectful to all restrictions - I am abiding by the travel rules and weighed up and discussed with his nibs and all that to make sure I feel ok about still going out once a day to run/swim - I do and i observe all rulings and gladly my mental state will reap the benefits
Some of you may not be as lucky as me having a swim right close by and I am sorry for that and will aim not to be too me me me when I do post
I just feel elated every time I swim, and seeing nature wake up is so moving - getting much better at winter routines too - have a great in/out routine and kit almost sorted.. totally in love with winter run/swim

The great news LindsD is when we can all swim again we'll be able to do like 30mins easily - at the moment the 10-15 mins limit makes it very different swimming
Staying safe is the priority and reading up and snaffling kit routines ready for when you can go again
