Some people just wear regular swim wear, but might add hat, gloves, boots or a rash vest for extra warmth. KatieB and I think maybe some others have tried long sleeved swimming costumes. Wetsuits do help with warmth and buoyancy. So even a shortie suit would help a bit. The main thing with OW swimming is to do it safely. There should be some links alongside this thread, I think. The RNLI has good advice about safe swimming and cold water

Daft bugger was wading around the point in his jeans and boots, stumbled into a hole and went up to his waist and was flailing a bit. Even his dog wasn't very keen to follow him round. Fortunately he managed to get a grip and get himself and the dog back to the beach. It was snowing at the time. Hope he didn't have far to walk back home!
