I think that's a good statement from Welsh Athletics and parkrun.

Last week I wrote to my MP (in England) asking her not to vote for any measures that would prevent group outdoor sport and exercise. Certainly the response on twitter etc to Wales parkrun suspension seems to be one of dismay and confusion, I guess that the people who worry about runners "huffing and puffing" over them are probably not engaging with that content though.

It does feel to me like some activities are caught by the new rules when they don’t need to as they are low risk while many higher risk activities are not impacted. For example 200 folk can sit in a small cinema for a couple of hours and if they but a drink and a tube of Pringles they don’t need a mask.

Changing the subject but yours truly in the recent parkrun email. It was nearly two years ago now, but a few from my club met up with Pro Direct (local to me, near Newton Abbot) at a parkrun and they took some shots, got us running about and gave us free stuff for our troubles (parkrun goodies, running shorts and a pair of shoes of our choice). It was a good day out and not long before the first lockdown, from memory.

Even with masks cinemas are a high risk activity imo, we usually wear FFP2 masks when masks are required or recommended and even so if I went to the cinema I'd be aware that there was a high risk of catching covid there at the moment. Similarly, even quite small groups meeting in unventilated pubs is risky, as are small indoor gym classes, visiting other people's houses etc. It's not so much about the numbers as about the setting. The logic is probably to try and avoid superspreader events but tbh the risk of many chains of infection are still there even if people are only meeting a small number of people in extended close contact.

I have to admit that annoying as the running rules are here in Wales, having the ability to make different decisions than Boris and his collection of buffoons is worth any amount of disruption.

Well they are not (yet) asking for legal advice on Twitter about suing local authorities and landowners but this blog.parkrun.com
Cites two papers that seem to me to be opinion masquerading as science.
I have done quite a bit of investigation on this subject and my tentative findings are that despite this being a controversial opinion, it is quite possible to run 5K at 9:00 on a Saturday without being at a ParkRun - actually nothing is stopping anyone doing it at an actual ParkRun course.
N.B. I would far prefer it if there were no restrictions but doing an Admiral Nelson to the risks and consequences is wrong.

I still find it baffling that anyone can criticise parkrun for making the case that parkrun can / should continue as much as possible despite covid; for parkrun Inc, parkrun is the most important thing. Surely that should be obvious? No different than pubs arguing they should stay open etc. It's in their vested interest to try to do a good job of making the case for their own self existence.

i would criticise anyone making the same case, I don't care who they are. I find it baffling that people can look at nearly 150000 Covid deaths in UK and argue that attempts to do something about the rate that this total increases should not apply to their activities.
