Wonder how much a fuss they'll make about it; or whether they'll just communicate it to teams without going "public" with it so that they don't just get a rush of individuals surprising core teams that haven't checked their inboxes?

Teams got the email larkim. I heard volunteers will be notified next followed by public announcement. Well that was the pre-leak idea I think.

I have a parkrun barcode on a plastic tag that is no bigger than a finishing position token, is there a deep-seated religious objection to carrying one of these rather than the typical modern smartphone? Is it like wearing a weights belt to build up fitness?

So presumably all those who up to yesterday had deep-seated religious objections to barcodes on phones because "it isn't parkrun" will be boycotting the events in future? I look forward to the establishment of the "Real Parkrun" breakaway or should that be "real parkrun"? Maybe they already gave up when people starting using phones as scanners. It's so confusing, this unchanging religious dogma handed down on tablets of stone that cannot be challenged but abruptly flips a u-turn whenever convenient.

To be fair jda, event teams have been consulted, and I've been very vocal in the past against this N(p)BNTNE dogma.

Obviously when I was asked, I explained how much I welcome the introduction of 15 year old technology to display barcodes.

Ooh, pin badges (on the parkrun UK FB page)

Hooray, parkrun have joined into the spirit of consumer overconsumption week producing completely pointless tat lacking in any conceivable function each individually wrapped in an unnecessary plastic film bag. Wonderful, where do I sign up, I'm willing to drive 300 miles in my 1980s diesel rustbucket to collect :)

Well there always has to be one miserable git and I'm claiming the position before anyone else gets it.

I've been having my barcode scanned off my phone for years - I have my paper barcode attached to the back. I don't see much need for me to change that.

I don't have any issue with people carrying a barcode on anything they like. It just seems odd to prefer carrying a bulky, expensive, fragile item with you instead of something that you can pin anywhere without noticing. It is interesting to consider how much people are prepared to pay for running shoes that are less than the weight of a smartphone lighter than cheap shoes.
