I think it’s a sensible move forward to allow phone barcodes along with the other means. I actually carry my Parkrun barcode in my phone case. If I didn’t been able to scan of my phone would allow me to turn up to cleethorpes Parkrun one Saturday when I was at the caravan without having to think about having a barcode (as an example) This is a prime example of why I've personally been crying out for this for a very long time. We've had no end of people in the last seven years who've not been able to deliver a printed barcode to our scanners because they're at the caravan park and have no means to print. We've had people who've come from somewhere without a parkrun, found out we've got one, registered with parkrun only to not be able to run. We've printed out barcodes the night before for runners who have asked nicely because they've found they forgot. Not just the core team, but other friendly members of the Cleethorpes community. Yet I've had people having screaming ab-dabs at me and my volunteers because we wouldn't bend the rules 'just this once', or we were 'the only event they've ever gone to that doesn't'; had people demanding that I justify myself as to why I enforce a policy (that my heart wasn't really in enforcing, but I did because I was told to). I've had people deliberately steal event equipment because I wouldn't scan their phone. Nobody is saying you can't present the scratty bit of paper you keep in your bra, or your shoe. Nobody is saying you have to run with a phone, but this is a thoroughly positive change. And on Saturday, I'm going to bloody well present my barcode DIGITALLY which I've got my Garmin to display! Well, I have to test the technology, really. |

ER - log into your parkrun profile and you can find it there. I’m really pleased about this - I’ve mentioned parkrun to foodbank clients who have no access to printers and can’t afford a wristband etc. They do have phones, it’s often their only internet access and when DWP does everything online they’re essential. It’s much more inclusive. Nobody is saying you have to run with a phone, most people will carry on doing what they’ve always done. Most don’t run with their barcode either to be honest, they go and get them from bags after they’ve finished and before joining the scan queue |

parkrun phone codes now announced on facebook. And you can add it to the google pay/apple wallet app etc I've been trying to find this @doc M - if I could get my barcode in to apple wallet that would be useful, I'll carry on using my wrist band (I wear it every run anyway) but it would be useful to have it there in case of a severe barcode c0ck up. |
