Metric ie mm is handy for stuff below half an inch. My wife is a building surveyor and they measure huge things in mm. Always amazes me

Metric works and is well defined. Particularly when working with weights and masses, but also anything derived from forces (pressures, moments etc.), I've seen quite a few calculation errors due to imperial/customary being inconsistently defined.

(I’ve probably said before, but I spent 25+ years in the lab using metric measurements, but I can’t cook in metric. I make cakes and biscuits by the weight of the eggs, the way I was taught by grandma)

I switched from imperial this evening because I chucked away the fl oz jug when rationalizing cupboard space. Once I realised the 1.5:1 for basmati rice of course still applies, it was a simple matter of weighing out 150 g of rice for two and adding 225 ml water (which weighs 225 g) and by the absorption method this was the best and most accurately made rice I've had in a long time :)

I find it hard to see the markings on my measuring jugs. It's far easier to just weigh the water when 1ml = 1g

Why some people can't leave their phone alone for 5 minutes even though they have paid through the nose to come to the theatre.

(It's the interval and the theatre has free WiFi as the phone signal in this old building is rubbish)

And I bet half the idiots here who have loaded up on drinks at the interval won't last through the second half without needing a pee,
