Day 7 done. Not too steady on low lunges but getting there.

I wish I'd warmed up before day 8. My low back was a bit unhappy. I might try it again later in the day. I still enjoyed it, but feel a little seized up. Oops.

Just dipping in here. The suggestions for adapting poses over the last couple of pages are really useful.
Does anyone else find lunges uncomfortable/painful for the knee of the back leg? It’s okay when I keep the back leg straight but if I try to bend the back knee it feels really unstable. I’m not sure why this is or how I can work on it, as it just gets worse if I build up to doing more lunges.

Keeping the back leg straight is usually the ideal position for it for maintaining stability...and using (engaging) the back leg's glute to maintain stability would probably be the best way if you're going to bend the knee.
My preference is the straight back leg - I just tried a bent knee and it didn't really work for me, partially because I take a big step backwards with the back leg, so there's not much leeway for bending the knee and staying upright! For me, lunge is to strengthen the front leg and less to do with the back leg.

Thanks, Garfield. I’ve always thought the same about the purpose being to strengthen the front leg, but have done programmes where you’re told to bend both knees to 90 degrees and drop the back knee towards the floor.

The only time I have a bent knee for a lunge is if I'm doing a low lunge with the knee on the floor.
Out of curiosity, I just googled yoga high lunge and the photos seem to keep the back leg straight or with a micro-bend (ie not locked knee).

Garfield I used the pillows to support my knees at the end of Day 4 and it worked a treat so many thanks for the tip.

I really enjoyed today - and I know I did better at the forward folds than a year ago. Loved the foot massage!
