I read somewhere, possibly the Times, that there was no participation in the parade this year of families carrying photos of people lost in WWII, and this was thought to be because the Kremlin didn't want to draw attention to the current losses going on in Ukraine. Is that a reasonable take on the absence? I hope they bloody well are nervous about those figures. Such a waste of life, on both sides, and just to bolster one man's ego.

From my very inexpert eye this article looks to make sense of the options available to Ukraine

I doubt there is anything in it that Moscow isn't aware of

The occupied city of Luhansk got hit by some missiles yesterday. Interesting because until now it's been out of range for Ukrainian forces. Russian TV blamed Storm Shadows. Whatever weapon was used, it did a good job of demolishing a couple of buildings.

I saw that too. I have to wonder if the missiles are already deployed, because something did the damage.

Another interesting development is that Russia fired its supposedly invincible Kinzhal (Killjoy) missile at a Patriot battery ... which shot it down. Probably just as well because the Patriot is apparently not easy to move around so once it's in position, it's in position. But I'm sure Russia will have another go.

Russia claims it destroyed a Patriot system overnight. We'll see.

Mmm. Why do I feel scepticism coursing through my veins?
