If you're interested in the state of play in Russia and the invasion of Ukraine, this is worth a listen. It's a bit long at 20 minutes but the analyst, Keir Giles, is to the point and does not waffle. Usual disclaimer: He's an old ex-colleague and friend. |

Third Russian ship sinking in a week. BBC etc seems to be of the impression the merchant fleet is in poor shape, maintenance wise. So even if this one didn't have a helping hand to take it to the bottom how much affect does a loss of maritime trade have on the Russian economy? This is only 3, they must have hundreds if not thousands of the things, but if a significant proportion are essentially salvage and unserviceable then does it mean that sanctions are working? Or if it was sabotage then it shows Russia to be vulnerable away from its land? There was talk of ships going to Syria to take military equipment out. I'd suppose Ukraine would like it to stay out. |
