Great training folks

Lots of tough runs and big weekly miles. Remember these when it gets tough in the fun zone on race day.

Good stuff folks. It's great to read everyone elses experiences.

I've written up a blog about last weeks training, see here: fetcheveryone.com/blog-share.php?id=481320

If you don't want to read the whole thing, I ran 110km for my biggest ever week. That included a 6 x 1.6km intervals session on Tuesday, a 60 minute Tempo run Thursday and a 28km Long run yesterday with 5km & 8km Marathon Pace efforts.

I'll scale it back a touch this week in terms of volume, hopefully hitting about 90km.

Great mileage and chunky long runs ptr_red nose runner and Hills of Death (HOD)

I think you’re right ptr_red nose runner (from your blog) in that pushing your ‘medium long’ runs up to over an hour (preferably 01:30-01:40 in my view) as well as hitting 02:30+ for your long runs will get you to where you are aiming for with regards to your longer-term sub3 goal. You are building very nicely and steadily to ensure minimising injury risk💪

More great running getting reported

Sounds like people are heading to spring races in good shape.

The mid week medium long run pays reel benefits. I often find it difficult to fit in. Sometimes I have done long run Saturday and medium long run Sunday.

I ran Gent HM (Flanders, Belgium) on Sunday.
The plan was to run at goal marathon pace, but standing in wave 1, I got a little carried away and ran my first 5k too hard. I then settled for target pace and allow myself to accelerate for the last 3k finishing just below sub 1:28.
Don't know if I should be happy with a great race or if I should regret not sticking to the plan and run an even-paced 1:30...

It’s done now Charlesvdw so it would def be the “great race” option for me - cracking time😎
Rest well and recover now and you’ll be golden👌

That's a cracking time Charlesvdw. I'd be over the moon with that. You got to your target pace and you had gas in the tank to spare for the finish. Sounds like a great race to me. :)

Evening all - have been hanging around this thread for a while taking in some excellent sounding advice, I suspect I'm some way away from a 3:30 marathon but I've got my first road marathon in a couple of weeks and am aiming for 3:45 or 3:50 maybe, so we'll call 3:30 a longer term goal ;)

I had a similar half plan to Charlesvdw yesterday, thinking I'll do it at marathon pace (which would be sticking behind the 1:50 pacer for me) to see if I could be disciplined enough to run in a crowd at that pace and trying not to get carried away. Worked pretty well and felt pretty easy at that pace, and at 9 miles I figured what the hell, lets go a bit faster...in retrospect those 4 quick(er) miles probably didn't do me any more good than had I kept at a consistent pace, but hey, it was quite fun to be overtaking people at the end of a race for once!
I'm hoping I can be disciplined enough to ease back a bit this week and next, but I've never tried to taper before a race before so who knows how that'll go too! But great to have a resource like this thread where people share their wisdom, it's much appreciated :)

Evening Joe1970 I’m excited for you to see how your first road marathon turns out.

If you had the discipline to hold back for 9 and then stretch out as you did in your Half, I reckon you’ll be able to be patient for just a couple of weeks now. I’m sure it will be worth it. COME ON!😃
