It's quite a fun story. Still seems a bit daft to me, but if you're into being centre of attention for mostly the wrong reasons then, hey, a bit of fun, I suppose! :-) G

He's got a 2:37 best from Newport marathon last year. So a pretty decent runner. :-) G

At the speed the elites run at, I wouldn't be able to outsprint them at the start at their marathon pace!

My recently recorded 100m PB of 17.4s is slower than Kipchoge ran every 100m in his WR race (think it equates to a 2:02:23) so I suppose maybe I could have hung on for about 125m if they were running to a pedestrian 2:05 pace ;-)

Very impressive times Alun

The speedier recovery is the other thing enabling runners to improve their times so much. I guess a compromise position would be to train in the carbon shoes but race in non-carbons. Like out-of-competition doping.
That’s a rapid 5K HappyG(rrr) with no speed training. VFs not much use off road though a friend has had hers resoled with inov-8 Mudclaws for fell-running!
Average mileage for my last 5 pairs of road shoes is over 1800 btw

Wow, really ??
I can sort of understand getting a grippier outsole for trail running, but think something as rigid as a VF would be pretty useless for fell running, where you want your foot to get as much grip as possible by conforming to the shape of the ground underneath you.

Contouring hillsides on off camber slopes sounds a nightmare in fully rigid shoes, as does trying to run over really rocky terrain.

Mudclaws, X-Talons, Walshes, etc are very flexible for a good reason

2nd had off ebay my yesterday post meant.

1800 miles for road shies is impressive FJ. Most people seem to want/need cushioning in road shoes and that's mostly mashed down after a few hundred miles. Doesn't bother me because I run in mostly uncushioned shoes anyway.

You're prob right tho - best I could do 5k was 21 mins and 10 miles 70.30 mins. Then get carbon shoes and a 19.11 5k. Prob tells a tale! :-) G
