Brunski (I think) wrote in his blog that he saw the collapsed runner receiving CPR. Very sad indeed. It's strange, I know it's just statistics that with 45000 people running for those few hours, there's bound to be a medical emergency occasionally, but it's still shocking to see a fit, healthy runner succumb. RIP.

Enjoyed Nick’s video & appreciated Andy’s. I know Andy: we’re in the same club & we’ve run in the same race many times, though it’s many years since I was in the same league as he’s got a lot faster. He’s a genuinely nice guy. I’ve got a similar marathon history too with more than half going awry in the latter stages. |

Yeah Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr) I must've got to the scene not long after Andy Raynor (FoD runner) had left as I saw the ambulance zoom by just before and then the noticeable raising between defibrillator attempts. Desperately sad, but as you say its kind of inevitable that these issues occur in a field so large and people pushing themselves to their endurance limits. I track my heart rate pretty closely and would like to think I would spot an issue but to be honest it probably doesn't work that way in the event of a catastrophic incident like that. RIP to the poor runner who lost his life, I've shed a tear or two thinking about it since so that video certainly resonated. |

Just got part way through listening to the new Marathon talk podcast and Deena kastor talks about a bit of rain being an"good thing" because the "negative ions react with the positive ions in the body" in a way that boosts performance. Is she just talking crazy new age stuff, cod-science or real science? |

Of course Larks, do people actually go outside and run when its not raining these days?? I havent a clue but found this. Had a quick skim so there is some science behind it motivationalliance.org |

Looks like there is some science there, which I'm relieved about! My faith in MT would have diminished if they started promoting nonsense science. I've probably only had one rainy run in the last 6 months, as far as I can remember. Partly due to being a lazy arse for late spring / early summer, and partly because it's been so dry. I need to be following a proper plan to completely ignore the weather (though once I'm out I really quite enjoy running in the rain). |

In a cod science, n=1 experiment, I can report often feeling miles better after running in the rain... it hadn't occured to me there might be a scientific reason for it.

sounds nonsense to me It depends on the type of rain....light drizzle might be nice, the kind of icy driving rain I am used to is not good |

I agree with both Oscar and Baz!! There is somehting about running in the rain that is nice but then to Baz's point, if its freezing cold, driving rain and windy, I want to get home! |
