What are people's thoughts on local, club events into next year? I.E, Halfs, maras, 10ks, trail runs etc? The races currently on around me (Devon) are mainly events put on by companies, which is great, but I do like a good old club event. I wonder if we'll see some cancel as they don't want the risk of spending money on things for the events to later be pulled. Or they don't want to put social distancing procedures in place with restricted numbers, etc. Any thoughts?
I organise my club's Club Championship and usually I get the next year's races signed off at November's committee meeting, as we have a very good idea what races will happen and when (i.e, long standing races tend to use the same weekend each year). I really don't know if I'll be able to that at November's meeting. This year's Club Champs has been cancelled obviously but will we be able to put something on next year? Maybe we can organise our own "club only" competition (maybe 2 events a month on a time trial type of course, as an example) but that wouldn't be the same but better than nothing I suppose.
It seems races on closed circuits have a better chance at the moment.

I was thinking about this just this morning G as I drank from a mug from a 10k run by a local club. They’re the best events, aren’t they?
I can’t see it. The last events companies need to get races on to bring the cash in. For the clubs it’s just too much risk, isn’t it?
I’m actually take part in a 10k race tomorrow. Given current state of fitness I’m taking part, not racing but I’m looking forward to the whole experience!

It’ll depend on the rules but I reckon smallish events will spring up at fairly short notice if the bigger ones cancel. I know of a couple of 10ks local to me in September for example. Limited pre-entry, small waves or time trial starts. Not much in the way of facilities, banter or prize giving but I’ll take what I can get!

XC rules should be released a week on Monday. It'll be interesting to see what they allow.

WW, yes, I do prefer a club event if possible. I've nothing at all against companies and it's great they're putting events on, but I think clubs may be more cautious. We'll see.
I did a 5K race a week or so ago. It was restricted to 60 entires, and we started in pairs, 60-secs a part. Organised by a company, and it was great to be "racing" again (well, it was a time trial really I suppose), but I don't think I could put that type of event in a Club Champs because we try and choose races where our members are more or less guaranteed to get a place if they want one. A race with 60 would probably mean that many would miss out. I've got a 10K in a couple of weeks on a race course (tarmac roads around the course), with more entrants but it still has wave starts.

When do your club champs start? Seems to me that the best option may be to wait and see/ delayed start.
Club only events could be a good option though.

It’s Jan-Dec, SPR. We may well ‘wait and see’ and do July-Dec or something, with some club time trials Jan-June. Lots of options obviously and I expect we’ll try and put something on, but it won’t be the same.

Maybe you don’t specify specific events, just distances to run in a specific month and best results counts? With the staggered starts the events are all ready time trails so why does the event need to be the same?
Have a 5K November, 10K December, HM January etc?

It would be about same terrain. A bit like XC where the absolute time isn't what you care about, just the time vs others.
Obviously might need to relax that in current climate though.

Our club champs is about finish ordering within club members present - ie 20 points for first club member, 17 for second.... Which means you can pretty much win by turning up to enough events (as I did a few years ago). Various tweaks are possible of course depending on your situation.
