Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’ve only had to walk, like everyone else, on the last climb of Snowdonia.

""Attempted for a PB: 6. PBs achieved. 6

Attempted for a time but not PB: 4. Time achieved: 4""

G - this is simultaneously extremely impressive, and leaves me wondering if you were a bit conservative....:-)

Big G - we all need to have some of those disasters to truly appreciate and respect the marathon distance. What HG doesn't say is how well he prepares for and executes his target races, therefore leaving less chance of any issues. Most of us have had the occasional "let's see what happens" and unsurprisingly it usually doesn't go that well. Abingdon is a bit like Dartmore Vale, As WW pointed out there's no easy way of getting back if you're stranded. The boredom drives you to the finish.

JoeH, you missed out some of your truly incredible marathons on the back of multiple races. I think you're allowed to have a few DNSs and DNFs.

I guess attempted for time but not PB by definition is conservative.

PBs I guess are harder to analyse.

Lol Big_G - that "what AM I doing?" question must have come to all of us at some time. And also the "it's shorter to go on than it is to go back" shrug of the shoulders!

PtB, you know me mate, only ever targeted what I believed was achievable. I'm an "under promise, over deliver" kinda guy!

And by the way, I did admit to 2 of those "just for funs" might have been categorised as "I'd have liked a decent time, but had a mare" if I were being more honest! :-) G

Joe's 150 marathons didn't even raise an eyebrow! We're a tough crowd. Can I just say, as I've said before, WOW! :-) G

I did remark on Joe PBing off multiple marathons. 150 is very impressive. I don't think I've done that many long runs >20 miles.

150 marathons. 1500 entered. Joe must have VERY deep pockets :-)

To be more positive, my progression on raced marathons over the years has gone a bit like G's:

3:23 debut
3:14 high
DNF - ill advised 'run to feel' attempt!
3:14 low
3:13
3:08
3:03
3:02
3:00
2:57
2:59
2:56

Nice run of PBs ruined by a pretty average run at VLM last year. I've still some aspiration to get a bit quicker but age is defo starting to have a bit of an effect now. Hoping to be able to stem the tide a little further in a new pair of super shoes at Manchester next year.
